Clemson softball sweeps No. 18 Virginia after impressive series

John Rittman and Clemson softball had a phenomenal weekend sweeping the No. 18 ranked Virginia Cavaliers.

Clemson softball finally broke through on something that had slipped away a couple times earlier this season, finishing off its first ACC series sweep with a 6-1 win over No. 18 Virginia on Sunday. The Tigers built this one from the start.

A hit-by-pitch and a well-placed bunt set up the opening run, and from there the lineup kept applying pressure. Taylor Pipkins delivered one of the biggest swings of the day with a two-run homer in the second, and Kiley Channell answered Virginia’s lone run with a blast of her own in the third. She wasn’t done either, adding another RBI later to help stretch the lead.

Sierra Maness took care of the rest. The right-hander went the distance, giving up just two hits and one run while working through a few tight spots. Virginia had chances but couldn’t come through when it mattered, finishing empty in key at-bats.

Clemson’s offense stayed efficient throughout, consistently cashing in when opportunities showed up. That combination of timely hitting and steady pitching helped the Tigers control the entire weekend, not just Sunday’s game.
