The former NBA champion coach was informed Sunday that former Providence head coach Kim English will be walking away from his duties as an assistant, according to ESPN's Pete Thamel . This comes at a critical time when Malone is trying to secure the Tar Heels roster for next season. English initially signed on to Malone's staff with Chuck Martin, who arrived from Arkansas and was a longtime assistant under coach John Calipari.

Malone also retained Sean May, Pat Sullivan and Eric Hoots under him. English, the former George Mason and Providence head coach, posted an 82-81 record across the past five seasons. He never made the NCAA Tournament at either stop.

The next assistant will be hitting the ground and trying to pick up slack in recruiting. UNC is still working for the commitment of top portal guard Juke Harris and appears to the upper hand for Utah transfer Terrence Brown, who's currently paused his recruitment after a death in the family.
