Part of the urgency comes from the uncertainty around current options. alks over new deals for Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai have been dragging on for months without much progress. Both are under contract until 2027/28, but while there’s optimism Szoboszlai will eventually sign, Mac Allister’s situation feels far less certain.
That’s not helped by interest from elsewhere. Manchester United and Real Madrid are both keeping tabs on Mac Allister, and there will be a multitude of other clubs looking to make their move. Then there’s Curtis Jones, who’s heading into the final year of his deal and with interest heating up around him, there's a strong possibility Liverpool could look to cash in.
So, Liverpool are likely going to be looking at finding a replacement for potentially both Jones and Mac Allister. Right now, Liverpool’s midfield just isn’t bringing the intensity it needs. Alexis Mac Allister has never relied on pace, but this season he looks a step slower than usual, which only makes things more difficult.
