Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora said on Sunday afternoon that starting pitcher Patrick Sandoval is dealing with left bicep tightness that he experienced following his latest rehab start with Triple-A Worcester.
"Patrick Sandoval is here today after experiencing tightness in his bicep. Obviously not what he or the club wants given his extended absence," Mac Cerullo of The Boston Herald posted on Bluesky. "Patrick Sandoval was supposed to start for Worcester today but is experiencing discomfort in the bicep area.
He came back to Boston to get it checked out. Payton Tolle was originally supposed to pitch Saturday or today, but he will be held out in case Sox have a rainout today," MLB. com's Ian Browne wrote on X.
