Mark Madden urges Steelers to cut Will Howard, draft top-5 QB prospect
The Pittsburgh Steelers were urged to cut ties with 2025 sixth-round quarterback Will Howard and select his replacement in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Will Howard fans won't be thrilled with Mark Madden's recent comments, as the ever-outspoken media personality called on the Pittsburgh Steelers to release the 2025 fifth-round quarterback and draft his replacement in this year's draft. On Saturday, Madden urged the Steelers to target Penn State quarterback Drew Allar in the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft and then cut ties with Will Howard. "Howard’s ceiling is NFL backup," Madden wrote.
"That’s why the Steelers should draft Penn State’s Drew Allar with, say, one of their three third-round picks. Then cut Howard. Don’t waste his time.
Allar’s ceiling is NFL starter. " Madden went on to argue his case using a scouting report from NFL. com that Allar looks the part of being “assembled in a quarterback factory.
" While Allar has terrific upside, many within the Steelers organization have expressed confidence in Howard in the uncertain quarterback situation they find themselves in.
