JM Eagle LA prize money jumps $1 million on Saturday, thanks to CEO

In a rare move, the LPGA saw the prize money jump $1 million on Saturday at the JM Eagle LA Championship.

On Friday, the LPGA's JM Eagle LA Championship had a total purse of $3. 75 million and a first-place prize of $562,000. That all changed on Saturday.

Walter Wang, JM Eagle's president and CEO, joined the Golf Channel telecast and made an unprecedented move. "I'd like to make an announcent," he told Grant Boone during the third round coverage. "I'd like to increase the purse by a million dollars.

" And just like that, through 54 holes of the tournament in El Caballero Country Club in Los Angeles, the total prize money shot to $4. 75 million with the winner now gettiing $712,500. That's a nearly 27 percent increase in first-place money.
