NBC Sports analyst and former NFL quarterback Chris Simms, on his Chris Simms Unbuttoned podcast , discussed Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes' influence on roster decisions. "I've been there in Kansas City, they ask him about everything because they know he's working and involved. I was there on a day where it was cut day," Simms said.
"I was about to interview him, and they (Chiefs officials) were like, 'Hold on, he's in the meeting with Andy (Reid) and (Chiefs GM) Brett Veach talking about who's going to make the team and who's not. I don't even know if I was supposed to share that, but I just did. Regardless, that's just the kind of guy he (Patrick Mahomes) is.
" Simms is a former third-round draft pick who played seven seasons in the NFL. He's one of the top football voices on NBC Sports with experience from different angles of the business. Mahomes has been rumored to be a significant factor in roster decisions over the past few seasons.
He reportedly pushed for the Chiefs to select Rashee Rice in the 2023 NFL Draft. The Chiefs and Mahomes are hopeful that he can return to the field ahead of schedule for the 2026 season.
