Frimpong Backs Wirtz for Liverpool's Upcoming Struggles
Frimpong backs Florian Wirtz for Liverpool's upcoming struggles. Expectations haven't panned out, but Frimpong is confident the German midfielder will rediscover his best form.
Jeremie Frimpong has backed Florian Wirtz to overcome his slow start and establish himself as a key player for Liverpool. Wirtz, who joined from Bayer Leverkusen for £116 million in July, hasn’t lived up to expectations, particularly in the Premier League with just four goals and four assists in 28 top-flight appearances. Ranking fourth for goal involvements in the Liverpool squad, Frimpong believes the German midfielder will rediscover his best form at Anfield.
Frimpong expressed confidence: ‘I can only say this, if it wasn’t for Flo we wouldn’t have won the Bundesliga [undefeated] or the Cup [in 2024]. I know what he can do. He knows what he can do.
It’s just for you guys to wait and see. ’ Wirtz’s debut campaign in England hasn’t been totally disappointing. Creating 50 chances from open play, Wirtz placed second for key passes per game and fourth for big chances created in the Champions League.
However, his struggles can be attributed to adapting to the fast and physical nature of English football compared to the demanding Champions League environment. Next season, if Wirtz fully adapts to the demands of the Premier League, he could improve significantly.
