Tyler Nuti's bunt brings home Nolan Colucci with the game-winning run on Saturday.

EAST GREENWICH – Practice made perfect for Tyler Nuti at the most critical time Saturday afternoon. East Greenwich had the winning run at third base with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning. This rematch of last year’s Division II baseball title series with North Providence came down to how well Nuti could execute under pressure.

His squeeze bunt toward the right side on the first pitch from Jaden Dexter was a beauty. Nolan Colucci broke on the delivery and raced across the plate standing up. The Avengers poured out of the home dugout to greet both players, a comeback victory on campus secured under gray skies.

East Greenwich wiped out an early five-run deficit thanks to its perseverance, and Nuti put his team over the top in a 7-6 thriller. The Cougars left Rhode Island College with the troph y last spring after a tense three-game series with the Avengers, and East Greenwich waited about 10 months to taste some satisfaction against a developing rival. “We’ve been battling these guys for years now,” Nuti said.

“We came into this game and we wanted to win. It feels great to be able to be the one who did it. ” View this post on Instagram
