Rangers See Chances Go Away in Loss to Mariners
Texas Rangers left 16 runners on base as Seattle Mariners escape jam late for 7-3 victory.
When the Texas Rangers take a look at the box score from Saturday night's 7-3 loss to the Seattle Mariners at T-Mobile Park in Seattle, one big statistic will stare them in the face. The Rangers left 16 runners on base, and had the bases loaded with two outs in the top of the ninth. In the end, though, the Mariners picked up the win.
Nathan Eovaldi took the loss for the Rangers, dropping his record to 2-3. Eovaldi pitched five innings, giving up eight hits, four runs (two earned), walking one, and striking out three. Cal Quantrill came on in relief in the sixth inning and pitched the rest of the game for Texas.
But Quantrill gave up three hits, three runs (all earned), walked two, and struck out five. Mariners starter George Kirby picked up the win, raising his record this season to 3-2. Kirby went 5 2/3 innings, giving up seven hits, one run (earned), walking two, and striking out five.
Six Mariners relievers followed Kirby, and Andrรฉs Muรฑoz picked up his second save this season. Seattle jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on Julio Rodriguez's single to right, scoring J. P.
