Niners Make Excellent Pick in Todd McShay's Mock Draft
Todd McShay projects the Niners snagging Utah's Caleb Lomu, a raw but athletic tackle, to secure their future at the crucial left tackle position.
Mock draft season is reaching final draft season as NFL analysts make their last prediction for how the NFL draft will unfold. One popular draft analyst is making his picks for the 2026 NFL draft. Todd McShay released his latest mock draft.
He sees the San Francisco 49ers drafting one of the top offensive lineman in the 2026 class in Utah tackle Caleb Lomu. McShay dropped his thoughts on the potential pick up for the Niners. "This is a forward-thinking move for San Francisco.
The 49ers would draft Lomu with the plan to develop him into the starting left tackle by 2027, as Trent Williams is set to turn 38 in a few months. Lomu shows impressive natural instincts for the position, though heโs still relatively inexperienced, with just 24 starts (all at left tackle) over the past two seasons. Heโs a bit high-cut and could stand to add more bulk, but heโs a high-level athlete with the quickness, balance, and mirroring ability you look for at the position.
I donโt see him kicking inside to guard in 2026, but thatโs up to Kyle Shanahan and his staff. Either way, this is good business. Draft, develop, and have your next left tackle ready to go on a rookie deal for four years.
