Saints’ 3-game winning streak comes to an end
Four home runs — including one from a rehabbing Royce Lewis — were not enough to save St. Paul from losing to Lehigh Valley on a blustery Saturday afternoon at CHS Field. The Saints’ three-game winning streak came to a close in a 10-6 loss to the IronPigs.
After the visitors took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, Lewis leveled the score with a two-run blast that also plated Walter Jenkins. The Saints took their only lead of the game at 3-2 on a solo homer by Tanner Schobel in the fourth, however the IronPigs retaliated promptly by hanging a 4-spot on the board in the top of the fifth. Three more solo home runs over their final five turns at the plate — coming off the bats of Emmanuel Rodriguez, Orlando Arcia and Aaron Sabato — were not enough to overcome Lehigh Valley, which scored a run in the eighth before putting the game out of reach with three more in the ninth to claim the four-run victory.
Raul Brito, who came on in relief of starter Andrew Bash, took the loss after allowing three runs on four hits and two walks in 2 1/3 innings. The Saints and IronPigs close out their series at 2:07 p. m.
Sunday, with John Klein (1-0, 7. 94 ERA, 13 K) getting the start for St. Paul.
