Kentucky lands another guard target from the transfer portal
The Kentucky Wildcats landed their second transfer portal commitment on Saturday, adding a high-scoring guard.
The Kentucky Wildcats and coach Mark Pope landed a big commitment from point guard Zoom Diallo last weekend. On Saturday, they got their second transfer portal addition, landing former Furman guard Alex Wilkins to the roster per Joe Tipton on On3 . Wilkins visited Lexington earlier in the week, and things apparently went well.
He was one of a number of guards from the portal that Pope and his staff either hosted Zoom calls with, or had come to town for a visit. Some players did both as they look for backcourt help. Last season, as a freshman, Wilkins was terrific.
He started all 35 games, and averaged 17. 8 points and 4. 7 assists while shooting 32% from three-point range.
For his efforts, he was named to the All-Southern team and would win the Southern Tournament MVP award for his play in that event. It'll be a step up, moving to the SEC, but Wilkins is talented and has three years of eligibility still remaining. He should continue to develop as a shooter, and is a solid win for Pope, who will continue to add players from the portal.
