Oregon loses recruiting battle for star transfer guard Preston Edmead

•Yahoo Sports

The Ducks have lost the recruiting battle for one of their top transfer portal targets, Hofstra guard Preston Edmead.

After hosting Hofstra Pride transfer Preston Edmead for a visit earlier this week, the Oregon Ducks will have to set their sights on anther point guard. Per On3's Joe Tipton, Edmead has committed to the NC State Wolfpack, shunning the Ducks and ending up with a program entering its first offseason with newly-hired head coach Justin Gainey. Edmead was easily one of Oregon's top targets in the transfer portal, as he was the CAA Freshman of the Year in his first season with the Pride, averaging 16.

1 points, 4. 4 assists and 3. 5 rebounds per game.

He helped lead Hofstra to a CAA championship, earning a berth in the NCAA tournament in which Edmead scored 24 points and knocked down six threes against the fourth-seeded Alabama Crimson Tide. The transfer portal departure of 2024-25 third-team All-Big Ten point guard Jackson Shelstad, who started 77 of his 79 games as a Duck, hit the program hard. Both Wei Lin and Jamari Phillips, Oregon's other primary ball-handlers from last season, also hit the portal, putting an immediate emphasis on head coach Dana Altman and his staff to land a point guard in the portal themselves.

But, per his commitment this morning, that won't be Edmead. NEWS: Hofstra transfer guard Preston Edmead, the CAA Rookie of the Year, has committed to NC State, he told @On3 . The 6-1 freshman averaged 16.
