4-star DB Tristin Hughes commits to Kentucky Football, who now has a top-10 recruiting class

The Kentucky Wildcats hosted their 2026 Spring Game Saturday afternoon, welcoming a handful of visitors. It’s been a good start to the day for Will Stein and the coaching staff as they’ve picked up their first commitment of the day. Tristin Hughes, an Ohio native, announced his commitment to the Wildcats on Saturday morning.

The 4-star safety picked Kentucky over Ohio State, Michigan, Louisville, and Virginia Tech, who were strongly in the mix, making for a huge recruiting win for this coaching staff. With this commitment, Kentucky now has the seventh-ranked recruiting class in 2027, according to 247 Sports . They’re one spot ahead of Georgia.

Hughes originally committed to Syracuse to play for Fran Brown, but decommitted in mid-February. The Hokies looked like the favorite in Hughes’ recruitment when James Franklin jumped in before his original April 2nd commitment date, but the Wildcats hosted him for a visit to a spring practice that day, and he left his recruitment open for a couple more weeks. ’s recruiting tactics paid off in the end, and they now have yet another blue-chip prospect set to make his way to Lexington next year. The 5-11, 190-pound Ohio product will be another great addition to the 2027 class. Hughes is ranked the 12th-best player in Ohio and 250th overall, according to Rivals.
