The Houston Astros made a move for pitching depth on Friday, signing a right-hander who made his Major League debut with the New York Yankees in 2020.
According to Chandler Rome of The Athletic , the AL West club signed Miguel Yajure to a minor league contract. The 27-year-old spent the past two seasons in Japan with Nippon Professional Baseball's Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles and Tokyo Yakult Swallows. After making just three appearances out of the bullpen with the Yankees, he was a part of the trade that sent right-hander Jameson Taillon to New York, with four players going to the Pittsburgh Pirates .
More : Red Sox never close on Astrosโ Isaac Paredes trade Yajure posted a 4. 48 ERA in 64. 1 innings with the Eagles in 2025, and he struggled to miss bats.
He struck out just 30 batters while walking 23. He last pitched in affiliated baseball in 2023 with the San Francisco Giants . The signing should be considered as insurance for depth, as the Astros have dealt with several pitcher injuries to start the year.
