Puerto Rico receives bowl game, Poinsettia Bowl returns to San Diego
Major bowl news dropped today as Puerto Rico will host a bowl game, and San Diego will host a bowl game it previously lost.
The 2026 bowl season is going to look radically different in some ways, and remarkably similar in others. It was announced that Puerto Rico will host a college football bowl game for the first time ever. The island territory has a chance to put its best cleats forward on a major stage.
Puerto Rico was supposed to host a Division II college football tilt between HBCUs Kentucky State and Franklin Pierce last season, but plans were shelved due to substandard field conditions. On the other side of the coin, what's old is new again as the Poinsettia Bowl will return to San Diego after a 10-year hiatus. The tilt has had a stop and start history , but is set to feature a matchup between Mountain West and Pac-12 schools.
