The 26-year-old Rodriguez (23-0, 16 KO) has become recognized as one of boxing’s top pound-for-pound talents over the past four years, winning world titles at flyweight and super flyweight.
Rodriguez last fought in November 2025, dominating and stopping Fernando Martinez, who was seen as the No. 2 man in the 115 lb division. The win unified three belts in the division, which will now open up to new champs with his exit.
Vargas (19-1-1, 11 KO) is a quality fighter and legit contender at 118, and no gimme as a first test for “Bam” at the new weight. He’s coming off of a draw with Daigo Higa last July in Japan, and will be an underdog against Rodriguez. The show will also feature a super bantamweight rematch between Arturo Cardenas and Jordan Martinez .
They fought to a draw on February 28 at the same venue, on the Navarrete vs Nunez undercard.
