Brentford U18s 2 Barnsley U18s 0: Beau Redknapp and Jacob Hanson on target as 10 men Bees earn three points Brentford Under-18s moved up to second place as they beat Barnsley Under-18s 2-0 at Wheatsheaf Park in the Professional Development League on Saturday lunchtime, despite playing 25 minutes with 10 men. Both of the Bees' goals came early in the second half as Beau Redknapp and Jacob Hanson's strikes sealed three points in the penultimate league game of the season. Domeiro Bobb-Semple was shown a straight red card as Gary McDermott's side held out for three points.

Nedved Owusu had the first chance for the Bees, latching on to a perfectly weighted pass from Redknapp and forcing a strong save from Aston Wilson, turning the ball behind at his near post on six minutes. Wilson was called into action again minutes later when the west Londoners carved through the Barnsley midfield. Skipper Hanson allowed the ball to run, turning his man brilliantly before finding Yerime Ouattara, who slid in Domeiro Bobb-Semple.

The winger's first time effort was saved well as it curled toward the bottom corner. On 16 minutes, Joshua Heyes struck the crossbar for Barnsley after a free-kick was whipped in from the left, but the flag was raised for offside. There were few opportunities for either side after that in the first half; Owusu had a half-chance but was closed down by two Barnsley defenders as a cross came in from the right and he could only get a thigh to the ball as he steered it wide on 33 minutes.

Nathaniel Ogungbemi made an important block as Brentford were caught playing out, Nathan Godziemski hit the side netting from a tight angle for the visitors and Owusu didn't connect well with a loose ball inside the penalty area as the sides went into the break level and goalless. Arley Kay headed on to the roof of the net for Barnsley early in the second half, but it was the young Bees who took the lead on 48 minutes. Redknapp picked up the ball from half-time substitute Jai Bansoodeb and fired toward goal from the top-left corner of the box.

The ball took a nasty bobble just in front of Wilson and squeezed through his hands to nestle into the bottom corner and give Brentford the lead. After being wasteful in the first half, the west Londoners were clinical at the start of the second and doubled their lead two minutes later. Hanson was calm amidst the chaos from an in-swinging corner and slotted home through the melee of bodies to make it 2-0.
