Charles Leclerc Trades His Ferraris for a Custom Classic Fiat 500 in Monaco
Formula 1 drivers are famous for maintaining garages packed with the most expensive and exotic hypercars on the planet. Scuderia Ferrari ’s star driver, Charles Leclerc , is certainly no exception. However, his latest car of choice is turning heads in his hometown for a completely different reason.
Recently spotted driving on the gold-plated streets of Monaco, Leclerc wasn’t behind the wheel of his Ferrari Daytona SP3 or SF90. Instead, the Monegasque was caught on video rolling through traffic in a heavily customized, vintage Fiat 500. A Matte Black Tribute The tiny Italian runabout has been given a bespoke, aggressive paintjob (or wrap?
) that perfectly matches Leclerc’s SP3. The vintage Fiat is finished in a stealthy matte black, broken up only by a red and white racing stripe running straight down the center of the car, a nod to both Ferrari’s signature color and the flag of Monaco. To leave absolutely no doubt about who is sitting in the driver’s seat, the doors proudly wear his official Formula 1 racing number, #16.
Around back, the custom touches continue. The microcar sports an upgraded dual-exhaust setup, hinting that this classic build might have a bit more bark than the original, tiny two-cylinder engine was ever designed to produce. Going Back to His Automotive Roots While it might seem comical to watch an F1 championship contender squeeze his frame into a classic city car, the Fiat 500 actually holds a massive amount of sentimental value for Leclerc.
Long before he was hustling circuits in a multi-million dollar race car, Leclerc’s very first experiences behind a steering wheel happened in a vintage 1969 Fiat 500. In the clip, Leclerc is seen sitting in standard, bumper-to-bumper Monaco traffic with the windows rolled down, completely unbothered. Passersby and tourists immediately stop to pull out their phones and film the sight as he shares the car with his wife, Alexandra.
