Jalen Overway needed three seasons to become an all-time great at Calvin University. He will spend his final year at UWGB.

University of Wisconsin-Green Bay men’s basketball coach Doug Gottlieb has a flawless record recruiting players from the NCAA Division III ranks after the season former guard Justin Allen had in 2025-26 . Can it happen again? UWGB will find out after landing Calvin University (Michigan) center Jalen Overway out of the transfer portal.

The 6-foot-10, 250-pound Overway was dominant during his three seasons at Calvin, being named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association’s most valuable player each year while establishing himself as one of the best in program history. UWGB had competition for Overway, notably from fellow Horizon League member Purdue Fort Wayne. After Overway visited Green Bay for a few days earlier this week, it didn’t take him long to commit to the Phoenix when he arrived back home.

He even had the opportunity to go to a golf simulator with a few new teammates that included Marcus Hall and Mac Wrecke. Per NCAA rules, Gottlieb is not allowed to comment on a potential recruit until all their paperwork has been filed. It’s a good bet the staff likes his ability in the post, and although it wasn’t a huge feature of his game at Calvin, his 3-point shooting potential.

“I’m not sure exactly how they found out about me, but pretty early in the process they came out and were really forward and did a great job recruiting me,” Overway said. “Hopped on a Zoom call and they said they’d be super interested in having me on a visit. I came to the visit, and I loved the coaching staff.
