Friday Seacoast Roundup: Portsmouth baseball freshman delivers walk-off win
Freshman Cam Stacy's two-run single to right in the seventh inning lifted the Portsmouth High School baseball team to a 10-9 win over Londonderry.
PORTSMOUTH — Portsmouth High School freshman Cam Stacy, with his team trailing 9-8, struck out in the bottom of the sixth inning of Friday's Division I baseball game against Londonderry. Stacy got another chance in the seventh, and delivered a two-out, two-run single, his first varsity hit, to right field, scoring Hugh Herter and Jackson Hooper as Portsmouth rallied for a 10-9 win. "For (Londonderry) to intentionally walk Nate to get to Cam, and for him to be able to pick us all up for his first varsity hit, I'm sure it's something he'll remember for a little bit," Portsmouth head coach Tim Hopley said.
"And hopefully it's a springboard, not only for (Stacy), but for us to continue to do some good things and have some positive results come from it. " Portsmouth is now 1-2 on the season. The Clippers scored six runs in the sixth to come to within one run of the Lancers.
"It's been a week," Hopley said. "There's just a lot of things that happened this week for a young and inexperienced team ... tonight we're really just happy for the guys.
