Late surge by The Citadel topples Bucs at home, 11-8
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — ETSU Buccaneers baseball saw a late lead slip away Friday night as The Citadel Bulldogs baseball rallied for an 11-8 win in the series opener. The Bucs led for much of the night, building a six-run cushion early behind a balanced offensive effort, but The Citadel erupted for 10 runs across the seventh and eighth innings to take control.
Luke Matlock homered twice and scored three runs to lead ETSU (23-12, 6-4 SoCon), while Jamie Palmese added three hits. Tristan Curless reached base four times. Tadan Bell delivered on the mound, allowing three runs over six innings, but ETSU’s bullpen struggled in the seventh as nine straight Bulldogs reached base during the late rally.
ETSU will look to even the series Saturday at 2 pm. Copyright 2026 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
