ECU BASEBALL: Pirates defeat Wichita State Shockers 7-1
GREENVILLE, N. C. (WNCT) — It’s a weekend of Pirate festivities, the Purple-Gold spring football game, and the Pigskin Pig-Out, while both Pirate baseball and softball host crucial series in American Conference play just up the block.
The Diamond Bucs needed a win to start the weekend off right after dropping three of their last four games. Pirates starter Luke Payne did not have his best stuff, but Gavin Marley provided three scoreless innings in relief. Walker Barron tied the game in the second inning, and Jack Herring hit a two-run shot in the fifth to take the lead.
Colby Wallace added a key insurance run in the sixth, and the Pirates added three more in the eighth to put the game away. The only negative from the night, Grady Lenahan was hit by a pitch in that inning and forced out of the game. WICHITA STATE 1 EAST CAROLINA 7 FINAL Click the video above for more.
