Saints down IronPigs for third straight victory

Despite being outhit 12-5 by visiting Lehigh Valley, the St. Paul Saints claimed their third win in a row with a 7-4 defeat of the IronPigs at CHS Field. St.

Paul emerged from the first inning with a 3-1 lead after two-run homer by Alan Roden was followed by a solo shot from Kyler Fedko. After a scoreless second inning, the Saints went up 6-2 after the third after another exchange of runs punctuated by Emmanuelโ€™s RBI that scored Kaelen Culpepper for the second time in the game. Culpepper scored for the third time after Orlando Arcia drove him home on an RBI double in the fourth to make the count 7-2 in favor of the home team.

Lehigh Valley more than doubled-up the home side in hits, but managed just two more runs in the fifth that brought the score to its eventual final tally. Despite Roden and Fedko driving in two runs apiece, and Roden also scoring two runs, no Saints hitter managed more than one hit, with Culpepper drawing two of the four walks issued by IronPigs pitchers. Reliever Matt Bowman netted the win with 1 2/3 innings of two-hit, three-strikeout relief to drop his ERA to 1.

54 on the season. Zak Kent took over for Bowman in the seventh and earned the save with 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief. The two teams face one another again on Saturday afternoon, with first pitch scheduled for 2:07 p.
