Lobo women's hoops announces two more signings
On Friday, the Lobo women’s basketball team announced two new signings: 5-foot-9 freshman Kate Wernli and 5-foot-8 guard Keiara Curtis. A Seattle native, — who is transferring from the University of Hawai’i — Curtis was named to the Big West All-Freshman Team and averaged 9 points per game, while shooting 40. 2% from the floor and 38.
5% from behind the arc. She also totaled 109 rebounds in 33 games — she started 18 of those 33 games for the Rainbow Wahine. “We are extremely excited to add Keiara to our program,” said Lobos head coach Amy Eagan, who has moved quickly on a roster rebuild in her first year with the program.
“She is a true shifty (point guard) that can also score at all three levels. She had a great freshman year but has a ton of growth in her still. We look forward to coaching her and seeing the impact she will have in our program.
” Curtis’ signing was announced by the team via X @UNMLoboWBB. Just a few hours later, the Lobos announced another signing via X. Kate Wernli, a Bixby, Oklahoma native who was committed to Eagan’s previous program, — Wernli is the fifth player to leave or decommit from Lindenwood to follow Coach Eagan to UNM — is the younger sister of Gracy Wernli, who signed with the Lobos on Tuesday.
Kate Wernli is an incoming freshman. She averaged 15 points and 5 rebounds per game, scoring over 1,100 points in her high school career at Bixby High School. “I have loved Kate’s game since the first time I watched her,” said Eagan.
