Kentucky baseball beats Vanderbilt with a walkoff grand slam
The Kentucky Wildcats baseball team got a series opening win against Vanderbilt on Friday on a ninth inning grand slam.
It has not been the kind of season that the Kentucky Wildcats baseball team was hoping for so far. They have lost four straight series in conference play, and have dropped to 25-10 on the year, and out of the top 25. That makes their series against Vanderbilt a big one.
Game one was on Friday, and it was a thrilling one for Wildcats fan. The Commodores jumped out to a 2-0 lead before Kentucky cut it in half in the sixth inning. That set up the fireworks in the ninth.
The Cats opened up with three straight hits to load the bases. The next two batters struck out, setting things up for Braxton Van Cleave who hit a dramatic game-winning grand slam for the 5-2 win. Van Cleave was the hero with a hit and four RBIs, but Tyler Bell also had a good game at the plate, recording two hits and an RBI of his own.
Luke Lawrence also had two of Kentucky's nine total hits. Jaxon Jelkin was fantastic on the mound again. He pitched eight innings and gave up just six hits and two runs.
