Wisconsin men's hockey coach Mike Hastings added scoring, goaltending depths with his latest signings from the transfer portal.

MADISON – During the first week of the transfer portal, the Wisconsin men’s hockey team has added depth and competition to its roster. And coach Mike Hastings and his staff have done so while adding players with multiple years of eligibility remaining. That was the case with former Northeastern defenseman Dylan Compton , a freshman who signed with the Badgers Monday.

On Friday, April 17 the Badgers announced the signings of two more players with multiple years of eligibility left: former Penn State forward JJ Wiebusch and former Cornell goaltender Alexis Courmoyer. In signing Wiebusch, the Badgers add a Wisconsin native who can provide some punch to the team’s offense in the wake of Quinn Finley’s departure to the New York Islanders. The 6-foot-1, 180-pound forward played at Madison Edgewood High School and calls Verona home.

He ranked second in goals (16) and fourth in points (36) for the Nittany Lions , who finished third in the Big Ten and qualified for the NCAA Tournament. Wiebusch comes to the Badgers with 77 games of experience and career totals of 30 goals and 39 assists. This season he had one goal and one assist against UW.

His third period goal against the Badgers on Jan. 24 was the first of three goals for Penn State in the final period of a 3-1 win at the Kohl Center. Cournoyer was the Ivy League’s rookie of the year this season and helped the Big Red finish third in the ECAC standings.
