Washington Nationals Welcome San Francisco Giants for Home Series
The Washington Nationals chase the San Francisco Giants homestand after successful road trip. Can they overcome home struggles against struggling San Francisco?
The Washington Nationals return from a week-long away trip to take on the San Francisco Giants for a weekend homestand. The Nats can consider their week away successful, after a three-game sweep of the Brewers and a four-game split with the Pirates. But playing at home has been a struggle for the Nats so far in this abbreviated season.
The Giants currently sit in last place of a crowded NL West, while the Nationals have slowly and quietly made a jump to third place of the NL East, overtaking usual contenders in the Mets and Phillies. Washington’s Zack Littell will take the bump first on Friday night against San Francisco's Logan Webb. Littell’s 4.
20 ERA leads Webb’s 5. 25, but Webb has been a Cy Young candidate for the past few seasons. Littell spent two seasons in San Francisco in 2021 and 2022, where he recorded two of his most successful major league years.
On Saturday, Washington will hand the ball to their ace Cade Cavalli, who will throw against the Giant’s Adrian Houser. Sunday will close the series with Miles Mikolas for the Nationals and Robbie Ray for the Giants. This will be an important start for Mikolas, who has found himself on a bit of a chopping block after some abysmal outings with Washington.
