Mandatory Credit: Rob Kinnan-Imagn Images When the ACC made the move to nine conference games, it left many, if not all, of the league’s teams with some non-conference matchups to shed. NC State had to get rid of a game in 2027 (and will need to do the same for 2028), and naturally, the one road game on the slate was the casualty: the return trip to Texas Tech .
NC State is set to host Kansas State in 2027, so it already satisfies the non-conference P4 opponent requirement with that game, and it was not about to trade a home game for a road game, for a variety of reasons. (Most of them financial. ) They could potentially have tried to push this game back, but after a quick check of FBSchedules.
com, it looks like they don’t share an open slot for a P4 game in the same year until like 2036, so what would be the point, really. State will have another decision to make soon enough for 2028, which currently has road trips to both App State and ECU on the schedule.
