Bournemouth agree deal to appoint former Borussia Dortmund boss Bournemouth have reached an agreement to appoint Marco Rose as their next head coach, with the German set to succeed Andoni Iraola this summer. The 49-year-old will formally take charge at the end of the season, although terms have already been agreed to allow both parties to begin planning for the next campaign. Bournemouth moved quickly to secure Rose after Iraola confirmed he would step down when his contract expires, ending a three-year spell at the Vitality Stadium.

While no official announcement is expected immediately, the club are working through the final administrative steps, including visa arrangements and backroom staff appointments. Rose emerged as Bournemouth’s leading candidate early in the process, with the club prioritising a manager whose tactical approach aligns with their current identity. His preference for high-intensity, pressing football is seen as a natural continuation of the style developed under Iraola.

Rose has been out of management since leaving RB Leipzig in March 2025, but brings extensive experience from his time in the Bundesliga. He has previously managed Borussia Dortmund and Borussia Monchengladbach, as well as enjoying success with Red Bull Salzburg. During his coaching career, Rose has built a reputation for developing young players and implementing an aggressive, forward-thinking system.

His spell at Leipzig included a domestic cup triumph and consistent attacking output, although results in the league ultimately led to his departure. Bournemouth view his experience in European competition and track record in top leagues as valuable assets as they aim to continue progressing. Iraola leaves the club having improved their Premier League standing over successive seasons, while also helping to develop several players who have since attracted interest from major clubs.

The transition to Rose is expected to maintain continuity in playing style while introducing new ideas and structure ahead of the new season. Bournemouth’s hierarchy are understood to be keen to build on recent progress rather than initiate a complete rebuild. Rose’s appointment signals a clear intention to remain competitive and continue evolving within the Premier League.
