Chris Johnson Is Officially on Packers Draft Watch

Many would say the Packers’ secondary didn’t live up to expectations last season. Inconsistent play and a lack of turnovers plagued the unit. Green Bay finished in the middle of the pack, allowing 202.

9 passing yards per game (14th-best). They also recorded just seven interceptions, ranking 28th in the league. With cornerback as arguably the biggest need, adding a true ballhawk could elevate this unit.

That’s where San Diego State’s Chris Johnson enters the conversation as a name to watch in the upcoming draft. Building a Draft Resume Throughout his collegiate career, Chris Johnson was a dominant force. In 2022, the 6-foot-0 SDSU product earned honors as the team’s most outstanding freshman on defense while appearing in 12 games.

The following year, in 2023, he was named the team’s Special Teams Player of the Year . Johnson continued to elevate his game in 2024. He earned honorable mention All-Mountain West Conference honors, led the team in forced fumbles, and recorded 67 tackles, all while starting in 12 games.

In his senior season this past year, he proved to be one of the top cornerbacks in all of college football. He was a Second Team Associated Press All-American, Mountain West Co-Defensive Player of the Year, and First Team All-Mountain West Conference. Johnson’s complete stat line for the 2025–26 season looked like this: four interceptions (tied for team lead), 49 tackles, three TFLs, one sack, nine PBUs, one forced fumble, and two pick-sixes.
