Valentina Shevchenko issues bold statement likening Rousey and Carano to old iPhones
Photo by Sarah Stier/Getty Images for Netflix Ronda Rousey and Gina Carano are finally set to face each other more than a decade after their potential matchup first gained attention. They will headline Most Valuable Promotions ’ card on 16 May, broadcast by Netflix. The fight has already generated debate, especially as Rousey continues to criticise the UFC and several of its female fighters, including Kayla Harrison.
Among those to weigh in is UFC flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko, who offered a mixed perspective on the bout. Valentina Shevchenko compares Ronda Rousey vs Gina Carano to “vintage” iPhones Photo by Jeff Bottari/Zuffa LLC Shevchenko shared her view on X, using an unusual comparison that blended praise with a subtle swipe at both fighters. She wrote: “Ronda vs Gina is like a competition between iPhone 6 VS iPhone 3GS.
Excellent vintage models. Love them both. Physical condition come and go, but technique will stay forever.
” The analogy highlighted respect for their skills while suggesting the fight may feel outdated in today’s landscape. Her opinion carries weight given her own achievements in the UFC, with 11 victories in title fights. That tally places her alongside Anderson Silva and Amanda Nunes, trailing only Demetrious Johnson (12), Georges St-Pierre (13) and Jon Jones (16) in that list.
Previous tension between Shevchenko and Rousey adds context Shevchenko’s comments also come against the backdrop of prior exchanges with Rousey. Rousey had previously taken aim at her over an OnlyFans profile, claiming she was selling naked pictures online. That prompted a firm response from Shevchenko, who defended her position and dismissed that idea, stating that Rousey “slept too long after her last fight in 2016” and does not know how sports people are using OnlyFans.
