Prep roundup: Ferguson notches win No. 400 as Falkville downs Decatur Heritage
Apr. 17—FALKVILLE — Falkville softball coach Christy Ferguson reached a career milestone Thursday night, winning her 400th game as a head coach with the Blue Devils' 16-6 victory over Decatur Heritage. Ferguson, who is in her 13th season as a head coach, has also coached at Hartselle and Danville.
She led Hartselle to state championships in 2014 and 2018 and led Danville to the state tournament in 2023. "I've been blessed that the Good Lord has allowed me to do something that I love for 28 years, 13 as a head coach," Ferguson said. "When I look back (on my career), I wouldn't be where I am without a lot of people.
Assistant coaches, players, my parents and other family members have played a big part in me getting this far. " On Thursday, Harper Ward drove in three runs. Peyton Holloway added three hits and Karsyn Echols got the win, allowing five hits and six runs with 13 strikeouts.
Brinley Aldridge led Decatur Heritage with two RBIs. Ferguson, who is in her second season at Falkville, said she believes she'll keep going for at least a few more years and maybe even chase win No. 500.
"We have some really young and talented players here (at Falkville) that have rekindled that fire in me," she said. "500 could definitely be in sight but the big thing for me is just chasing that blue trophy. That's always my goal.
