However, it’s not quite as simple as all that.
Monaco still have to agree a contract with Fati, and that’s where things might get tricky. According to Cadena SER, Fati’s salary is likely to be a real issue. Journalist Andi Onrubia explains: “Ansu receives 250,000 euros net from Monaco, but he doesn’t just receive money from Monaco; Barça also pays part of his salary, and that salary is unsustainable for Monaco.
” Fati will therefore have to take a pay cut if he is to continue his career with the Ligue 1 side. Onrubia adds that while Monaco want to keep the Barca forward: “They aren’t going to do anything crazy or overpay for the Spanish international. ” Cadena SER estimate that Fati earns €14 million gross and also point out how he renewed his contract with Barcelona until 2028 before making the switch to Monaco .
It’s thought that Fati would need to accept a “substantial” pay cut to stay or will otherwise end up going back to Barcelona in the summer. The report also claims that if Fati does end up agreeing to join Monaco, the transfer would include a buy-back clause for Barca of around €28 million.
