The unfortunate reality of Major League Baseball is that skippers around the league have to win if they want to keep their jobs.

Whether that's unfair or not, despite all the other factors, is one thing, but it's just the reality of being a head man at the highest level. For New York Mets manager Carlos Mendoza, he's certainly someone who needs to be careful. Mendoza hasn't done the worst job in Queens, but the Mets have spent a lot of money on this roster and have been expected to win at a very high level.

That simply hasn't been the case, so if this continues over the next week or so, I'd expect talks to start ramping up about his future. Despite my belief, others don't think that will be the case in the immediate future. However, it seems like a given that it would be a conversation at some point.

“It is still only April, just 17 games into the season. Firing a manager this early would be overly emotional. Mendoza must lead the Mets out of this hole, and if he does, all will be forgotten.
