Rangers Use Ninth-Inning Rally to Win Wild Game Against Athletics

The Texas Rangers will have a happy flight after using a ninth-inning comeback to get a 9-6 win against the Athletics and secure a series split.

The Texas Rangers no doubt will have a happy flight after using a ninth-inning comeback to get a 9-6 win against the Athletics  at Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento, Calif.

, and secure a series split. With the win, the Rangers' record improves to 10-9 on the season. The Rangers were the first team to the scoreboard as Brandon Nimmo laced an RBI single in the third inning to put Texas up 1-0.

In the fifth inning, Jake Burger came through with a sacrifice fly to double the Rangers' lead and make it 2-0. However, it wouldn’t take long for the Athletics to respond. In the bottom of the fifth, shortstop Jacob Wilson ripped a game-tying, two-run single against Texas starter Jack Leiter.

Just batters later, Carlos Cortes also came through with an RBI single to give the A’s their first lead of the afternoon. Those three runs would be the only ones that Leiter surrendered, putting forth a solid start, going 5 2/3 innings, allowing seven hits and three runs while walking three and striking out three. In the sixth, Josh Smith tied the game with a double to left field.
