California recruiting intel: Top prospects on the move

Ahead of another busy weekend, there is a lot going on with top California prospects. Here’s the latest intel on many big names: CB Donte Wright – Long Beach (Calif. ) Poly The new top-rated prospect in the California state rankings, Wright remains committed to Georgia – a pledge he made last summer to the Bulldogs – but according to sources it would be a surprise if he ends up in Athens.

Wright is visiting Michigan on Thursday and that trip could change things but Oregon still very much looks like the team to beat. His relationship with position coach Rashad Wadood plus coach Dan Lanning ’s push has been significant. Miami is also in this and cannot be counted out.

DL Marcus Fakatou – Chatsworth (Calif. ) Sierra Canyon After flip-flopping his visit plans from Texas to Michigan and back to Texas this weekend, the four-star defensive lineman is expected in Austin for a very important visit which could determine how high the Longhorns are going to be in his recruitment. Fakatou has Oregon in the top spot after his recent visit but has a penchant of moving teams way up after taking a trip there as Notre Dame will be his final one next weekend.

USC seems to be sliding again after a recent uptick especially if Mekai Brown commits there on Friday. DL Kasi Currie – Chatsworth (Calif. ) Sierra Canyon There has been a lot of chatter about Texas recently and it makes sense because Currie has loved his visits there plus former Sierra Canyon teammate Richard Wesley is now playing in Austin.

But the word is that Ohio State has the edge in his recruitment and the idea of being the first Sierra Canyon player to star for the Buckeyes is making a major impression. Currie has also raved about position coach Larry Johnson and called him “the LeBron James of football. ” DB Gavin Williams – La Verne (Calif.
