MSU basketball reportedly interested in Big Ten transfer portal center
There's a new transfer portal target that's reportedly emerged for the Spartans
There is a new reported transfer portal target for the Spartans, and it's someone who played at a conference rival this past season. Michigan State basketball has reportedly shown interest in Washington transfer center Franck Kepnang, according to Jamie Shaw of On3. Kepnang is the latest transfer big man that Michigan State has reportedly been pursuing, with the Spartans yet to land anyone out of the portal.
Kepnang is listed at 6-foot-11 and would be entering his seventh year of college eligibility next season. He started his career at Oregon in 2020, playing two seasons with the Ducks before spending the last four years at Washington. He started 25 of 27 games this past season, recording 6.
2 points, 6. 3 rebounds and 2. 1 blocks across just over 22 minutes per game.
Based on other reports, Kepnang should have one year of eligibility remaining after receiving two different medical redshirts and also the COVID season exempt. Injuries have been an issue with Kepnang throughout his career, but he does provide Big Ten starting experience and could serve as a solid role center prospect for the Spartans. We will need to continue to monitor this possible recruitment and see if anything more comes out of this initial report.
