Bears' Hall of Famer to announce Chicago's Day 2 picks at NFL draft
Bears Hall of Fame tackle Jimbo Covert will make his return to Pittsburgh to announce Chicago's Day 2 picks at the NFL draft.
Chicago Bears Hall of Fame left tackle Jimbo Covert will be on hand at the 2026 NFL Draft to announce his former team's Day 2 selections. The 2026 draft will be held in Pittsburgh, Penn. , which marks a homecoming for Covert, who played five years with the Pittsburgh Panthers before being drafted sixth overall by the Bears in the 1983 NFL Draft.
Covert was a cornerstone of a Bears offensive line that led the NFL in rushing for four consecutive seasons from 1983-1986 with all-time great Walter Payton. Covert played his entire nine-year career with the Bears, during which he was a two-time All-Pro selection, two-time Pro Bowler, a member of the NFL's 1980s All-Decade Team and a Super Bowl XX champion. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2020.
As it stands now, Covert is slated to announce three picks for the Bears, who own a pair of second rounders (Nos. 57, 60) and a third-round selection (No. 89).
Chicago has a slew of needs to address on the roster, including defensive line, safety, center, offensive tackle and cornerback. Bears general manager Ryan Poles has always preached a best-available mindset, so we'll see how those selections pan out as Chicago looks to shore up the roster under second-year head coach Ben Johnson.
