Zach McKinstry injury update: Tigers third baseman 'not moving around great'
Zach McKinstry left the game after the seventh inning Wednesday after he was tripped by a Royals base runner. He was diagnosed with a bruised hip.
Detroit โ Tigers utilityman Zach McKinstry remains sore following his exit from Wednesday night's game against the Kansas City Royals, manager AJ Hinch said Thursday. McKinstry was removed from the game before the eighth inning of Wednesday's 2-1 win , after he got tripped by Royals base runner Jac Caglianone in what was the final out of the seventh inning. Earlier in the game, McKinstry had a collision in the field, and was a bit banged up on a head first slide into home.
He was diagnosed with a bruised hip, and he was scheduled for an off day Thursday anyway, with Royals left-hander Kris Bubic scheduled to start. "He's pretty banged up," Hinch said Thursday. "We're going to continue to get a look at him even further.
"He's not moving around great today. " With McKinstry out, Wenceel Perez came into the game to play center field, Javier Bรกez moved to shortstop, and Kevin McGonigle moved to third base. Perez ended up hitting the winning homer in the eighth inning.
McGonigle was in the starting lineup Thursday at third base, the rookie's 18th start in 19 games this year. On deck: Red Sox โถ Series: Four games, Friday-Monday, Fenway Park, Boston โถ First pitch: 7:15 Friday, 4:10 Saturday, 1:35 Sunday, 11:10 a. m.
