€44m versatile summer signing can become important Chelsea option Chelsea defender Jorrel Hato has improved steadily as the season has gone on, and shows potential to be a really good player. We’re trying to find some positives in a tricky time for Chelsea, and Patrick Van Aanholt’s nice words about Jorrel Hato this morning gave us something to think about.
The Blues signed the 20 year old for a mighty €44m last summer, and so far it hasn’t looked like the best investment at that price. But there’s no doubt he’s shown improvements as the season has gone on. He’s made 30 appearances already, split pretty evenly between left back and centre back.
That versatility was one of his big selling points, and certainly has come in useful. With 4 starts in our last 5 Premier League games, he’s shown that he’s earned the trust of Liam Rosenior. Next season’s plans for Hato as defence is shuffled With Levi Colwill returning to full fitness and another central defender likely to arrive in the summer, we expect Hato’s focus to be more on the left side next season.
Let’s hope for another season of steady improvement from the Dutch international, who we can certainly see developing into a leader in the squad. In other news… Van Aanholt called Hato “one of the better left backs in the league” in his quotes. Man U have seen Harry Maguire banned for their game against Chelsea – a big boost for the Blues, if they can make the most of it.
