They needed some help on an ill-fated popup first. Jazz Chisholm Jr. hit a sky-high pop to the left side with one out and no one on base yet, the Yankees down 4-3.

Angels shortstop Zach Neto and third baseman Oswald Peraza (a former Yankee) both went out just beyond the dirt as they looked toward the ball in the sky. Neither took charge. The baseball dropped to the shallow outfield grass.
