New York missed out on the signing.

Mets clearly missing Edwin Diaz originally appeared on The Sporting News . Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here . The New York Mets came up what was reported to be a few million short of bringing back closer Edwin Diaz, who signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers this offseason for a three-year, $69 million contract.

Now, the Mets are definitely missing him. The Dodgers just swept the Mets so completely that Diaz didn't even have to pitch. He was warming up Wednesday night before the Dodgers put up five runs in the bottom of the eighth and Diaz got to sit back down.

He's had a bit of a limited start to the season himself as the Dodgers have been careful with him after a rough outing, but he's saved four games in six chances. More concerning for the Mets are their own bullpen numbers. Devin Williams started well but has since struggled, and his WHIP now begins with a '2', which is not the number of walks and hits per inning that a closer wants to give up.

Luke Weaver, his main setup guy, is also getting shelled. #we canโ€™t help but notice ๐Ÿง pic. twitter.
