LAWRENCE ( KSNT ) – Despite tying the game late, the Kansas Jayhawks fell to the Missouri Tigers in the Border Showdown, 4-2. Mizzou’s Sydney Forrester got the Tigers on the board in the first with a single to drive in the game’s first run. In the second, the Tigers would continue to score, this time via a sacrifice fly to extend their lead to 2-0.
It wasn’t until the sixth when Anna Soles came up to the plate to score the first runs of the day for the Jayhawks. A single out to left brought home Bailey Weber and Presley Limbaugh to tie the game, 2-2. In the top of the seventh, Missouri’s Abby Hay would hit a two-run shot to put the Tigers up 4-2.
Kansas was unable to respond in the bottom of the frame. “It’s tough, but you know, I think the thing about this team is we’ve been in this situation before, so we’ve bounced back,” Kansas softball head coach Jennifer McFalls said. “We’ve kind of been some comeback kids on some big games, and unfortunately it just didn’t go our way tonight.
” Blakely Barber got the start for Jayhawks, pitching two innings, giving up two runs and three hits. Chloe Barber would be charged with the loss, after pitching 2. 1 innings and giving up the go-ahead homer.
