EVANS, GA (WJBF)- This week’s scholar athlete is a standout on the field and in the classroom at Greenbrier High School. Soccer standout Mackenzie Canady is a midfielder and striker. She played in the state championship her freshman year.

The senior caption led the 5A region 1 in assists, led her team to three conference championships, and plays in club soccer in the ECNL for South Carolina United. On top of that, she maintains a 3. 5 GPA, and has done several community service projects.

“I have to stay organized because it’s very difficult to get everything done. I have to have a planner, and not procrastinate on things,” Canady said. “Every year she takes a little more leadership and more of an active role.

This year she’s a team captain, active leader, big part of the leadership for the girls, and a big reason why we have high hopes for the team,” said head soccer coach Rob Husted. “She started playing at 3 years old, took lead on the field and chased that ball up and down, and nobody was in her way,” said her mother, Melissa Canady. “I’m just looking forward to her future, her drive, her heart and where it takes he,” said her father, Brad Canady.

Mackenzie is taking her talents to Charleston Southern University to play division one soccer, and major in nursing. Copyright 2026 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
