Luton comeback confirms Northampton relegation Northampton Town have been relegated from League One after a late Luton Town winner sealed a 2-1 defeat at Kenilworth Road. The Cobblers started well and missed an early chance through Sam Hoskins and Tom Eaves . They did eventually take the lead on 31 minutes when Hoskins raced through and lifted a composed finish over the goalkeeper.
The Vertu Trophy winners responded before the break, with Liam Walsh smashing home from distance to bring the sides level. The second half was much more even, with both teams creating half-chances. Cameron McGeehan went close for the hosts, while Ali Al-Hamadi struck the post as Northampton pushed to stay alive in the game.
Just when it looked like a draw was on the cards, Kal Naismith produced a moment of quality, curling a 30-yard free-kick into the net to complete Luton’s comeback. The result confirms Northampton’s relegation to League Two after a difficult run of form in the second half of the season. Elsewhere, AFC Wimbledon failed to take themselves out of danger at the other end after their 2-0 loss against Stockport.
It leaves them only three points above Exeter City and with a poorer goal difference.
