Red Sox’ Alex Cora discusses Jarren Duran’s reaction to fan: ‘It’s hard. I’m not in his shoes’

MINNEAPOLIS — The Twins are investigating after Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran said a fan told him “to kill myself” after he grounded out in the fifth inning Tuesday at Target Field. Duran reacted by giving the middle finger to the fan. After the game, Duran said he should not have reacted that way but he said “that kind of stuff is still kind of triggering.

” Duran had previously opened up about a suicide attempt in the Netflix documentary, " The Clubhouse: A Year with the Red Sox ," released April 8, 2025. Manager Alex Cora said he’s not going to tell Duran how or how not to react in that situation. “It’s hard.

I’m not in his shoes,” Cora said. “So for me to say, ‘Don’t react that way,’ I don’t know what he goes through. So I think for people to judge him because he did what he did, they’re not in his shoes.

Never been in his situation. This is a different situation than others. It’s not that you’re struggling offensively and they say something and you react.

It’s something else. And it’s not for me to judge him or to say, don’t react that way. The only thing I can do is tell him that I’m here for him, that the organization is here for him, and we’re going to support him.
