Texas Tech nose tackle Lee Hunter made a pre-draft visit to Packers
Texas Tech defensive tackle Lee Hunter posted a photo of his pre-draft visit to the Packers April 15. Hunter is expected to be a second-day pick.
Per NFL rules, the Green Bay Packers are allowed to host up to 30 draft-eligible players (excluding “local” prospects, such as those in the UW system or nearby regional schools such as Northern Illinois) for in-person visits. The Journal Sentinel is tracking the visits and supplying profiles based on information from sources and published reports. To see other players who visited the Packers , visit the draft tracker.
GREEN BAY – With a nickname like “The Fridge,” you’d expect Texas Tech’s Lee Hunter to be able to stop the run. At 6-foot-4, 318 pounds, he played nose tackle for the Red Raiders and did just that. Hunter is one of the players the Green Bay Packers hosted on a top-30 pre-draft visit.
He posted a photo he took at the Packers’ facility on April 15. After one season at Auburn (he redshirted), he transferred to Central Florida and started 23 of 38 games, earning second-team all-Big 12 honors after leading the team with 9½ tackles for loss (one sack). Hunter cashed in on a large NIL (Name, Image and Likeness) deal to play at Texas Tech and, after earning first-team all-conference honors, his draft stock grew.
There isn’t much sack production with Hunter (eight total), but he had 32½ tackles for loss, which shows he played a lot on the other side of the line of scrimmage. He projects as an early-down player in the NFL who can draw double-teams and penetrate gaps on occasion. “I’m high energy, a football player,” Hunter said at the NFL scouting combine.
