Penn State basketball lands Miami (Ohio) sharpshooter Brant Byers, a local talent who brings a lethal 3-point shot.

After a week of departures from the program, the Nittany Lions finally got good news on the portal trail, landing a Miami(Ohio) sharpshooter who also just happens to be a local guy. On Tuesday, the Nittany Lions announced that Brant Byers has committed to play for Penn State basketball, returning to his home state. Not only does Byers bring much-needed flair to the squad, but he also brings a lethal 3-point shot.

After redshirting his freshman season, Byers saw a massive uptick in his stats over the past two years, as not only did he earn all-MAC honors in both, but he was a key part of the Miami squad's undefeated regular season. For a Nittany Lions team that shot an abysmal 32. 4 percent from deep last season, Byers is a key addition who will add much-needed shooting prowess.

Byers will have two seasons of eligibility remaining upon his arrival in Happy Valley. Byers is a career 40. 1 percent 3-point shooter, a stat that would have led Penn State last season alone.

Most importantly, he also earned the trust of former coach Travis Steele as well, upping his minutes and appearing in all but one game for the RedHawks. To top it all off, he averaged an efficient 14. 2 points and 4.
